next exhibition： current exhibition： Masato KOBAYASHI    "The Nude"   Feb. 10, Fri., – Mar. 11, Sat., 2006 Closed on Mon., Sun. and National holidays Masato Kobayashi    Flash (drawing 2005)   2005 SHUGOARTS is pleased to announce the show of Masato Kobayashi, “Nude”. Kobayashi was born in Tokyo in 1957, lives and works in Gent, Belgium. The solo-exhibition “A son of painting” curated by Jan Hoet was held in SMAK, Gent in 2001. The exhibition of “STARRY PAINT” was held in SHUGOARTS, and in the same year, Kobayashi stayed in Tensta Konsthall, Stockholm for two weeks as a part of the exhibition of “STARRY PAINT stars of outer space by pure painting”. Kobayashi looks at his work as body which consists of canvas skin and frame born. He adopted the peculiar style of painting which he rubs paints into the canvas directly without using brushes and forms and develops the painting as he considers it is too late to paint after the canvas was stretched. The show is composed of his recent works and drawings including the yellow painting in 2001 and the 3m wide nude painting from a series of “Starry Paint” which he has been working since 2003.
