The most sexy part of the body (Brain-drawings and models)
2005-07  pencil H/B and colour pencil on a printed image,
SHUGOARTS is pleased to announce a solo exhibition of Jan Fabre, "The most sexy part of the body: Brain-drawings and models".
This solo exhibition is composed of drawings that have brain as main theme and brain shaped sculptures, as well as brand-new sculptures by the artist. The artist has been working on the Brain-drawings series since 2005. At this occasion, 25 drawings from the series are exhibited. Brains that are depicted with colorful pencils transform humorously. It grows a tail, laughs and dances...
The brains represent human intelligence, but at the same time it is a nerve system that controls instincts. Fabre, who has been studying and creating art pieces on brain, claims it is the most important and uncertain organ in the body and he calls it "the most sexy part", because brain is the most imaginative part of the body. Although it is a partial of the body as an organ, it governs the entirety. At the exhibition space, viewersf brains and the brains that Fabre presents confront directly.

Fabre was born in Antwerp, Belgium, in 1958. After his study at Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Antwerp, he has been working in the both fields of theatre and art by crossing the border between them. His multiple talents are well known not only in Belgium but also in foreign countries.

He is also well known for sculptures made out of insects. In 1992, he participated in Documenta 9, Kassel, and 49th Venice Biennale in 2001. In Japan, he participated in "Another World" at Art Tower Mito Contemporary Art Gallery in 1993, and "Ripple Across the Water" at Watari-Um Museum in 1995.
